• Anatomically correct model of a 2 kg, 40 cm new-born female baby developed to teach and practice the vascular accessing of infants including the availability of those veins uniquely used in this age group
• Vein size and wall thickness provide the realistic feel and appearance of a new-born to make accessing more challenging thereby improving technique and confidence
• Practise accessing, securing, dressing, site care, and maintenance for:
• Standard venipuncture
• Peripherally inserted central catheter
• A unique feature of the simulator is a lifelike umbilicus allowing the repeated use of a 5FR umbilical catheter to access the umbilical vein, with proper placement verified by a blood return
• An umbilical tape can be tied around the umbilicus to secure the catheter
• Nasal and oral openings are present for placement of nasal cannula, endotracheal, nasogastric tubes and feeding tubes, permitting teaching and practising of suctioning, securing, dressing and cleansing

Features

• Underlying blue veins are barely visible through replaceable, translucent skin on the head, right and left arms and right leg
• Improved veins with less drag and more tear resistance
• Accessible veins – temporal, external jugular, post auricular, basilica, cephalic, saphenous and popliteal
• A ‘pop’ is felt as needle enters the vein, followed by a realistic flashback confirming proper needle placement
