Sittingbourne, Kent 1st May 2012 – Adam,Rouilly Limited is delighted to announce the launch of Desperate Debra®, a revolutionary new simulator for training of impaction of the fetal head at caesarean section.
The simulator has been developed in close collaboration with Dr Graham Tydeman, Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology - NHS Fife, Professor Andy Shennan - Professor of Obstetrics, and Annette Briley – Consultant Midwife, Clinical Trial Manager, Maternal and Fetal Research Unit, Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital.
In trial groups 70% of those questioned had personal experience of difficulty in delivering an impacted fetal head at caesarean section, whilst 80% were directly aware of incidences where impaction has resulted in serious maternal or fetal morbidities.
“Impaction of the fetal head is a serious, potentially life threatening event which many doctors both first encounter and proceed to gain experience with in real life situations,” Daniel Mogentale, Product Manager said, “The Desperate Debra® simulator aims to both introduce fetal head impaction and improve confidence to new trainees as well as increase awareness and enhance practice for current professionals.”
The Desperate Debra® simulator is highly realistic, featuring a pregnant abdomen, uterus and fetal head of a birthing mother with a unique mechanism to replicate fetal head impaction and manual dis-impaction. The simulator’s realism is further enhanced through utilisation of a pelvic bone cast from life and palpable fontanelles in the fetal head. Variable degrees of fetal head impaction, rotation, flexion and asynticlism as well as the ability for pre-birth vaginal examination allow for simulation of a variety of different situations.
The Desperate Debra® simulator will be available from Summer 2012 through Adam,Rouilly directly or our worldwide network of distributors. Established in 1918, Adam,Rouilly has been at the forefront of supplying medical education worldwide for nearly 94 years.
